Writing to his friend of long standing, Horatio Blennerhassett describes his long and perilous voyage around the Horn, where he witnessed the sinking of three ships in a gale. At the time of writing he has returned to San Francisco from his mining operations fifty miles from Sacramento City to reprovision. Included is a description of the construction of his mining apparatus, the prices of food and lodging in San Francisco, and some of the success he has had at the mines.
